Text Box: The Masons of Ohio for many years have been supporting athletes to the state Summer Games of the Ohio Special Olympics. In some years well over $100,000 was contributed. In 2001 a total of $105,000 was donated, $115,000 in 2003 and $135,000 in 2004. At one time it required $30.00 to sponsor an athlete, those costs are now more like $100.00 to support an athlete to the games.

It would cost Grand Lodge of Ohio $150,000 to totally sponsor all eligible athletes to attend the Summer Games. Scioto Lodge #6 F. & A. M. members have contributed $1,000 annually for the last several years. This year The Grand Lodge of Ohio has released the following guideline contributions and the accompanying plaques that will be presented at the Annual Communication of the Grand Lodge of Ohio in October.

For Bronze Medal Award a donation must be at least $1,000. A Silver Medal Award requires a minimum donation level of $1,500 and for the Gold Medal Award a donation of $2,000 is required. Each lodge will receive one Special Olympics pin for every $100 donated and those pins are distributed at no cost to lodge members.
