Text Box: Oren R. Schmieder, 83, of Chillicothe, died 7:40 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005, at Traditions of Chillicothe following an extended illness. He was born Aug. 21, 1921, in Ross County, to the late Henry W. and Mary Hilderbrand Schmieder. On Aug. 24, 1946, he married the former Norma Jean Royer, who died Nov. 7, 1986. 
Surviving are sons, Jay (Elsa) Schmieder and Dan (Mary Janice) Schmieder, both of Houston, Texas, and Todd (Lori) Schmieder, of Tustin, Calif; and a grandson, Darrell Schmieder. He was predeceased by brothers, Ralph J. and William Henry Schmieder. 

Oren was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, all local Masonic bodies, including Chillicothe Commandery No. 8 Knights Templar, where he had served as commander in 1962, American Legion Post 62 and the Ross County Senior Citizens. He had served as drive chairman of the former Community Chest and was a past president of Kiwanis. He was a volunteer for the OSHIIP for seniors and also at the Chillicothe VA Medical Center. He had served on the boards of the Red Cross, Boy Scouts, YMCA and the Text Box: Chillicothe City Schools. Mr. Schmieder served as sergeant in the Army Air Corps 21st Air Depot Group during World War II. In 1982, he retired from Mead Corporation, where he had worked for 40 years. Oren loved to play golf and bowl. 

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005, at Ware Funeral Home with Pastor Randy O'Donnell officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Ware's, where a Commandery service will be at 7 p.m.

Right Worshipful Brother Robert K. Brown is the chairman for the event. More information will be released as plans are finalized

Text Box: Scioto Lodge #6 F. & A.M. will be celebrating its 200th year in 2005. Senior Warden, Brother Michael B. Haller will be presiding in the east during this historic year. A Bi-Centennial year committee is to be appointed to properly commemorate this occasion.  Scioto Lodge #6 held it first recorded meeting on November 22, 1805. The minutes of that meeting read, “At a meeting of a majority of the Brethren of Scioto Lodge No 2 under the jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of the State of Massachusetts at the house of Thomas Needham in Chillicothe November 22, A:L 5805.  The following Brothers were elected:

Text Box: Brothers Thomas Gibson, Jervis Cutler, Nathaniel Willis, Henry Massie, James Davenport, Seth Thompson,  Peter Marks and Joseph Dix affixed their signatures to the By-Laws of Scioto Lodge #2.  In other business, Worshipful Master Thomas Gibson requested a correspondence be directed to Brother Rufus Putnam and the officers of American Union Lodge of Marietta inviting them to attend the Festival of St. John the Evangelist hosted by Scioto Lodge #2 on December 27, 1805 for the purpose of installing the officers.
