Text Box: Profile Out of Time—Edward King of Chillicothe served as Grand High Priest from 1824-1827. He was one of the most gifted men to ever serve the Grand Chapter. Son of Rufus King of New York, he was one of the framers of the Constitution of the United States. King left for Ohio in October of 1815 and was admitted to the bar in 1816. A successful attorney, it was said he could compress facts into a brief shorter then any other member of the Ohio bar. He was a one of four who founded the Cincinnati Law School in 1833. He served as a aide on the staff of Governor Worthington (his father in law) and later on the staff of Governor Morrow. He escorted General Lafayette when the latter visited Cincinnati. King was raised in Scioto Lodge #6 on December 6, 1820 however, he never held an office. He received his Capitular Degrees in Chillicothe Chapter #4 in 1822 and served as High Priest in 1822, 1823 and 1829. He was elected Grand Orator of the Grand Lodge in 1823 as well as Deputy Grand High Priest in 1823 and Grand High Priest in 1824.
