Text Box: Chillicothe native creates $10M scholarship for Ross Co. students By CLAIRE CAHOON , Gazette Staff Writer

Larry A. Gates announces his creation of a $10 million college scholarship for Ross County public high school graduates at the OU-C Stevenson Center.

Text Box: Mr. Larry A. Gates, who on Thursday, December 11, 2003, announced during a ceremony at Ohio University-Chillicothe his creation of a $10 million college scholarship for Ross county public high school graduates, will be the guest speaker at the annual Scioto Lodge #6 Scholarship Banquet. The banquet this year will differ somewhat from previous events in that top scholars will be invited to attend the banquet. Our original intent was to host our scholarship recipients, their immediate family, all valedictorians and salutatorians and their families, from the seven area high schools. Complications arose when the banquet chairperson was unable to get a commitment from area high school officials as to who those recipients were due to grade compilation and final grade point averages that are used to select valedictorians and salutatorians. Invitations will be mailed to area high school superintendents, principals, and guidance counselors and top scholars.
Brother Dan Riddle and Worshipful Brother William Bennett will co-chair the scholarship banquet which will be held Monday, May 10, 2004. Social will begin at 6:00 pm with dinner being served at 6:30 pm. Reservations are required and may be made by calling either of the co-chairs at 775-0724 or 773-7433
